New poll: No Estate Tax resonates with Independent voters
In politics, elections are often decided by Independent voters. Politicians searching for an issue that swings Independents in their favor might want to take note of a recent poll by Resurgent Republic. The poll reveals that 66% of Independent voters are opposed to letting the Federal Estate Tax come back at a rate of 55% on estate over $1 million, which is exactly what will happen if Congress doesn’t act before the end of the year.
The breakdown of the poll is below.
| Support | Oppose | Don’t Know | |
| ALL | 32% | 63% | 4% |
| REP | 15% | 80% | 5% |
| IND | 31% | 66% | 4% |
| DEM | 50% | 46% | 4% |
The poll was conducted in key states such as Nevada, Washington, Florida, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Colorado with toss-up Senate races. Candidates in these states – and across the country – would be wise to publically reject a 55% estate tax, and better yet, to support permanent estate tax repeal. Over two-thirds of all Americans favor permanent estate tax repeal.
